Title: Nightmares
Series: Abby Scuito: Vampire slayer
Rating: Teen
Disclaimer: I am not now, nor have I ever been Joss Whedon or Donald Bellisario. I know it's shocker, but you'll all deal.
Fandoms: BtVS, NCIS
Spoilers: Roughly around season
Warnings: Spooky dreams?
Pairings:  N/A at this point, but I'm planning on Abby/Spike and Xander/Ziva, because if anyone can handle in a violent woman with intimacy and trust issues, its Xander.
Author's Note: This was inspired by a chapter I wrote for a group series on TtH. It's my take on what would happen if Abby from NCIS became a Slayer. The rest of the series should be a mix of humor, but I figure that at the beginning, it would be pretty strange and surreal.

Abby Sciuto was the sort of woman who could work a major case for twelve hours, go home and spend three hours on her makeup, then go to the club until three in the morning, get two hours of sleep, before doing it all over again. Granted, she couldn't do it every night. And she couldn't do it without her dear, sweet, heavenly Caf-Pow. And besides, waiting for Gibbs to show up and growl always kept you on your toes.

All who knew her usually described her with the following words: energetic, intelligent, weird, funny, and kind. The key to Abby's exciting and full life (no, it's not the aforementioned Caf-Pow; Caf-Pow in not the key to her life, it is the very foundation), was ensuring that her precious few hours of sleep were uninterrupted. But something was interrupting Abby's sleep.

Clawing hands tore at your flesh- no, not your flesh; yours but not yours. Yellow eyes danced with joy in blood-stained face.

"It's the end for you, Slayer."

Bright yellow eyes offer mock sympathy, a twisted face bathed in blood.

"I'm sorry luv, I don't speak Chinese."

Walking, powerless, towards a wrinkled, saggy, bat-like face. Turns you around, bites you, you fall into a pool of water. Darkness, then life.

Looking at blues eyes, apologizing (for what? what did you do?) then running into the sky. Falling into lighting.

Screaming. Surrounded by monsters that rush at you. You're so young, you don't know what to do. But you know you have to save the world, stop the First. You fight until every muscles burns with exhaustion The you feel it, like a wave vertigo that gives you strength. You make a fist and you know, you KNOW, that this is what you were meant for.

Abby's eyes snapped open, her heart pounding. Fear and danger echoed at the corners of her mind; instead of sitting up, she rolls out of bed and onto her feet. She could hear it, someone was outside her door. Running, she grabbed the front door and ripped it open. The neighbor looked at her, afraid as the door crashes into the wall. Cringing, she looked at the door, hanging by a single hinge, a gaping hole in the drywall.

"So much for the deposit," she groaned.

Four nights of nightmares; sometimes the monsters don't scare her, because she fights them and it feels better than the dreams where she flies. Sometimes it's terrifying, running for her friend as she sees him on the ground, blood running from his eye socket, and she wakes up sweating and crying.

Four nights of terrible sleep and four days of countless Caf-Pows had her snapping at Tony and Ducky until even Gibbs started walking on eggshells around her. As she walked towards her building, it felt like every nerve-ending in her body is screaming for her to hunt. But as she approaches the building, she sees a man and a woman, waiting. Eye-patch and Red, she couldn't remember their names. But they were always there, helping her in her dreams. Abby knew that something was different, something had changed.

"Are you Abby?" Eye-patch asked. He smiled, friendly. He knew the answers to everything, Abby could tell. Abby knew something was different, but it would be okay. Eye-patch was her backup, and Red was her big gun. She'd be okay.

Eye-patch looked at her, then at Red. "You sure?" he asked her. Red nodded. Eye-patch looked at her again, smiling. He glanced down at Abby's platform boots, then at her face.

"So, uh, how tall are you without the boots?" he asked.

"Five feet, ten inches."

Eye-patch snickered.

"Man, Buffy is going to be pissed," he choked out. Red started to giggle, then laugh.

As Eye-patch calmed down, he wiped the tears from his eye.

"Hello Abby, I'm Xander Harris, and this is Willow Rosenberg. Tell me, do you believe in vampires?"

Abby sat in her living room, chewing on her lip. Xander and Willow sat across from her, sipping water. It had taken them three hours to explain the history of slayers, the Earth, and, at Abby's prompting, their role in all of it. Abby frowned, thinking. Raising her eyes, she met the expectant gazes.

"Okay, so vampires and demons are real, usually evil, and its my mystical destiny to fight them?" she asked. Xander nodded while Willow smiled supportively.

"That is so great!"
